March Challenge: Altered Art – Beyond the page

We all love making different types of beautiful cards and layouts, who doesn’t. This month we want to do something a little different so we challenged our design team and want to challenge you to create an Altered Art project. Will it be a accessory, blank canvas or an ornament you own that you think would use some more colour and embellishments here is a chance to transform it and share with us.

Here is the inspiration from our team:

I created a 3D pop up book page for the Altered Art March challenge. I used both Destination Unknown and Cotton Candy Dreams to create this underwater assemblage. I used chipboard, flowers, mini art stones, real shells and starfish and a mini glass bottle. I combined everything with some mixed media sprays, gesso, alcohol inks and stuck it all with gel. I mounted it all on an old hard cover book so it would be sturdy enough to withstand the mixed media products and the heavy pieces. I’m quite pleased with the results. This is a picture of my kids during a photo shoot at the beach so I thought it was perfect for this off the page project.

I made this little tin lady using an old candy box and papers, stickers and die-cuts from Cotton Candy Dreams. I covered the inside with a piece of the “Pucker Up” paper and then added the little lady, and used the speech bubble from the die-cut sheet as a focal point on the top. Word sticker add the right feeling. She is now sitting on the shelf where I keep all my mists

My first idea was to alter something and go really mixed media with it. But as that’s what I love to do, I thought to challenge myself a bit more and go easy with the mediums. Luckily I then found a tall tin jar in my stash and thought to make a pen holder out of it. That way I could use more patterned paper and embellishments and not so much mediums! I did use some mediums, but did use quite a few paper elements as well. Can’t wait to see what you do with the theme!

I simply love the design of the abstract flowers on the “Cotton Candy Dreams” papers. I wanted to replicate them and combine my own drawing with the printed design onto a canvas. The process was lots of fun as I experimented how to get a similar effect in my drawing to that on the papers. I just love the end result, it’s so whimsical and exactly how I imagined it.

Today Louise is sharing her fun take on paper dolls. Louise loves to create these just for creative fun, and or to use in her scrapbooking and art journal. Louise thought it would be great to use the fabulous 7 Dots Studio stamps so she has used them to create patterns on the dresses of her quaint hand drawn girly peeps.

Hi everyone !
My self-confidence is very low… like many of us but I really think that beauty lies beyond the mirror! I created this mirror to express this feeling. At first, this mirror was white, I used a lot of mixed media products, metal embellishments and played with paints and sprays. Of course, I added 7 Dots Studio goodies, I’m in love with the 7 Dots Studio’s Words Stickers, I want to put them everywhere :) They match perfectly here, don’t they?
XOXOXOXOXO, Nathalie Dalibard

In this creation, I had fun altering a small box. I love using the 7 Dots Studio papers as the are of nice quality and thickness. I love texture and 3D feel so I embellished the box with a bit of chipboards and tags. It turned out magical and mystical at the same time.
Please enjoy the video.

For this challenge, I made small rectangle boxes form 7 Dots Studio papers to add to my canvas to get more volume. I added mediums as well for texture and to decorate the whole. I also used stickers and tags also from 7 Dots Studio. A real pleasure to create.

Hello,Everyone! This is my project for Altered Art Challenge. It’s an easel for my cards and tags photo sessions =) I used Sweet Candy Dream Collection.

I love altered art! My favourite things to make awesome are bulbs and bottles. So, this month I decided to make spring bottle with wire dragonfly. And now it is my favourite 3D-project. I really love all this glitter and bright colours, and almost alive dragonfly!

February Challenge – Love is in the Air

February is the month of love. With the Valentine’s Day as the main event you can feel that Love is in the Air through the entire month. That’s why in this month’s challenge we focus on creating Love oriented projects. So grab your beloved 7 Dots Studio products and express some love to your close ones through layouts, cards, canvases and any other scrapbooking form. And don’t forget to share with us.

Here is the inspiration from our team:

Hi everyone, I would like to show you my new layout using amazing Writer’s Block collection. New challenge: love is in the air, SO, a layout full of pink, heart and pink. I wanted something soft and sophisticated for this layout, so I used this wonderful paper from the Writer’s Block collection, just a touch of pink with watercolours and of course flowers!

When i am in love everything sounds like a music, my mind is blowing up and I feel like I want to dance…Love is everywhere, love is in the air! I can feel it in my veins. I can breath it. I used mainly Writer’s Block collection papers and stickers, combined with stamps from older collections Lost and found and Fortune Teller. I combined a black and white photo with brown, teal and dark pink watercolors.

What could be more valuable and better than love? Love your relatives, tell them about it, quietly put chocolates in their pocket :)

“Love is in the air everywhere I look around. Love is in the air every sight and every sound.”
I created a shabby tag and I mixed two beautiful collections: Soulmates and Verano Azul

My idea was to use papers from Writer´s Block to make cards more masculine, as I did not feel like making romantic & feminine cards for Valentines this year. In fact the only one I give cards to is my partner and my father. I used the patterned papers from the Writer´s Block 6×6 paper pad. I die cut out a doily and leaves from the same papers and used as embellishments together with tags – also from Writer´s Block. I gave my cards the right Valentines touch by using word stickers & stickers from the Homegrown collection. A bit of Pink Mist splatters add extra effect. I’m really satisfied with how the cards turned out.

For this challenge I made a project with “love” colors. This is a 3-dimensional frame with mixed-media touch.

February is a month of love, indeed. With that in mind, I made a little set of ATCs. I chose positive, sweet texts as the background for these cards and the added some pinks and purples on top. The big texts also reflect love and they are from the Cold Country Die Cut Elements set.

In this creation, I am amused with punch of red and black colours. I love the contrast. The Homegrown collection is perfect for this. I added some flowers to brighten up the whole creation. I am still in love with the brand because the collections are always fun to create with. I hope you enjoy the video.

With this months challenge Louise has used the beautiful softly patterned vibrant papers and elements from the Homegrown range to create a layout to celebrate the love between a father and his daughter.

One says “If You have friends – You have everything”. I would also say “If You have beloved family – You have everything”. And that what’s my layout is about. To make it I used Writer’s Block and some elements from Homegrown.

I made this layout with cut-out hearts on the background. It’s all about me and my husband. It’s all about love. On the photo my husband and I are holding hands at sunset. It was our vacation this summer and it was a very romantic moment. I’m happy that I can capture that moment in my project.

I made the canvas with my husband and I on our trip to India this winter. When travelling we always fell that love is in the air. The tags and stencils from the collection “Writer’s Block” are very universal, and help to make a project on any topic and in any colour palette.

My lover is always running away from cameras, it is rare that I use a photo of us two in my work, but I took this photo just before last Christmas. What better way to express this challenge theme that with a lover’s photo? Play with us by expressing your love on 7 Dots Studio.

January Challenge – Monochromatic Project

Why would you use an array of different colours when you can stick to just one? In this month’s challenge We want you to create and share some monochromatic projects with us. So pick your favourite colour or the one your not used to and test yourself limited to only one colour hue.

Here is the inspiration from our team:

In this creation I had fun with a new collection, I love it especially it’s magnificent Teal colour. This collection blends wonderfully with this theme. Not to mention my splashing with lot of flowers.
Enjoy the video.

I love monochromatic layouts. immediately I got ideas of a wintry, snowy layout. So that’s what I tried to achieve here. I used the beautiful paper from Writer’s block ‘Sincerely’ because it already has that wintry feeling. I used some clear and white gesso on it, just dabbing with a tissue, to give it a snow-look. I used the letters stencil with modelling paste, and when the paste was still wet, I poured ultra fine white glitters on it. I build my page with lace, photo’s, cut out squares from tags, chipboard, wire, flowers leaves and more. My chipboard pieces and flowers are painted black and again dabbed with some white gesso over it. I added more embellishments, die cut stars, rhinestones, glass beads, straws, and more glitter.

To tell you the truth I have noticed that monochromatic layouts are a BIG challenge for me. But I am so in love with the colours of the new Cotton Candy Dreams collection that it was a real pleasure to work with these papers!!! I used the “Mint Julep” paper for my background with a thin layer of white gesso and orange ink spray. Lot of embellishments of the same colour, Words stickers and Elements.
XOXOXOXOXOXO Nathalie

Green is my favourite colour in scrapbooking. I don’t know why but I feel the nature, the simplicity, hope and life… I just love this colour and I think I’m not bad at crafting with it…

I present to you my art spread, I’m a girl and I love the colour pink!

For this challenge I created a romantic layout, using a new stunning 7 Dots Studio Collection “Writer’s Block” with a lot of flowers and mixedmedia techniques.

Creating monochromatic projects is a really challenging and SO much fun! I sorted trough all my 7 Dots Studio stash and mixed a lot of papers & embellishments that had the same green and grey tone. The “Palmistry” 12×12 paper from the Fortune-teller Collection set the tone and from that I had a great time playing with stencils, Glimmer Mists, stamps & embellishments. I really love the feeling in the finished layout – the colours seem dreamy & a bit punky and rebellious.

This challenge proved surprisingly difficult! I usually tend to use analogous color scheme in my projects so it should’ve been a piece of cake. But you know when something is not allowed, it’s just the time you really would like to use it? Lol! But the other difficulty was to choose the color! As I normally gravitate towards blue and turquoise hues I went with a peachy colors this time and did a page about a small puppy, all grown now.

Louise has chosen to use one of our fabulous new release ranges to create a simple but effective monochromatic [brown and white] layout. Don’t you just love the Cotton Candy Dreams range?!!

I’ve created a canvas with picture taken in a deep forest. I am charmed by its browns and greens merged together. Sometimes I dream about living deep in the forest. That would be wonderful, don’t You think? To create this project I used Writers Block and Nature Walk collections.

I love red. I’m not afraid to use it in my work! And today, my choice fell on it. In the photo, my husband and professor, with whom we met while on vacation in Goa! Interesting man, who left very good memories in our hearts.
