January Challenge – Monochromatic Project

Why would you use an array of different colours when you can stick to just one? In this month’s challenge We want you to create and share some monochromatic projects with us. So pick your favourite colour or the one your not used to and test yourself limited to only one colour hue.

Here is the inspiration from our team:

In this creation I had fun with a new collection, I love it especially it’s magnificent Teal colour. This collection blends wonderfully with this theme. Not to mention my splashing with lot of flowers.
Enjoy the video.

I love monochromatic layouts. immediately I got ideas of a wintry, snowy layout. So that’s what I tried to achieve here. I used the beautiful paper from Writer’s block ‘Sincerely’ because it already has that wintry feeling. I used some clear and white gesso on it, just dabbing with a tissue, to give it a snow-look. I used the letters stencil with modelling paste, and when the paste was still wet, I poured ultra fine white glitters on it. I build my page with lace, photo’s, cut out squares from tags, chipboard, wire, flowers leaves and more. My chipboard pieces and flowers are painted black and again dabbed with some white gesso over it. I added more embellishments, die cut stars, rhinestones, glass beads, straws, and more glitter.

To tell you the truth I have noticed that monochromatic layouts are a BIG challenge for me. But I am so in love with the colours of the new Cotton Candy Dreams collection that it was a real pleasure to work with these papers!!! I used the “Mint Julep” paper for my background with a thin layer of white gesso and orange ink spray. Lot of embellishments of the same colour, Words stickers and Elements.
XOXOXOXOXOXO Nathalie

Green is my favourite colour in scrapbooking. I don’t know why but I feel the nature, the simplicity, hope and life… I just love this colour and I think I’m not bad at crafting with it…

I present to you my art spread, I’m a girl and I love the colour pink!

For this challenge I created a romantic layout, using a new stunning 7 Dots Studio Collection “Writer’s Block” with a lot of flowers and mixedmedia techniques.

Creating monochromatic projects is a really challenging and SO much fun! I sorted trough all my 7 Dots Studio stash and mixed a lot of papers & embellishments that had the same green and grey tone. The “Palmistry” 12×12 paper from the Fortune-teller Collection set the tone and from that I had a great time playing with stencils, Glimmer Mists, stamps & embellishments. I really love the feeling in the finished layout – the colours seem dreamy & a bit punky and rebellious.

This challenge proved surprisingly difficult! I usually tend to use analogous color scheme in my projects so it should’ve been a piece of cake. But you know when something is not allowed, it’s just the time you really would like to use it? Lol! But the other difficulty was to choose the color! As I normally gravitate towards blue and turquoise hues I went with a peachy colors this time and did a page about a small puppy, all grown now.

Louise has chosen to use one of our fabulous new release ranges to create a simple but effective monochromatic [brown and white] layout. Don’t you just love the Cotton Candy Dreams range?!!

I’ve created a canvas with picture taken in a deep forest. I am charmed by its browns and greens merged together. Sometimes I dream about living deep in the forest. That would be wonderful, don’t You think? To create this project I used Writers Block and Nature Walk collections.

I love red. I’m not afraid to use it in my work! And today, my choice fell on it. In the photo, my husband and professor, with whom we met while on vacation in Goa! Interesting man, who left very good memories in our hearts.

December Challenge – Traditions around the world

This time theme of our challenge is “Traditions around the world” and what better month to talk about and create tradition orientated projects then December. There is so much celebration happening it has got to invoke some inspiration. Is it a Christmas, New Years, Ester or any other maybe not so well known tradition we hope You can share your wonderful creations with us in this months challenge.

Here is the inspiration from our team:

For this challenge I created a romantic card, using a new stunning 7 Dots Studio Collection – “Cotton Candy Dreams”! With this card I wanted to tell you a touching New Year’s tradition in my country (Russia). On New year’s eve, when the clock strikes midnight, at this very moment we always think about our fondest desires, which we crave with all our hearts, that we want to come true in the coming year!

In kindergarten, all children dressed up in Christmas costumes and did a little matinee. This is me when I was six dressed in my fox costume.

The Christmas Boat (Karavaki – Little ship) is part of a very old Greek tradition. It comes from the Islands where each year children go door to door singing ‘kalanda’ (Christmas Carols) usually accompanied by instruments such as triangles, guitars, accordions and harmonicas. The children on the islands carry small wooden boats, either illuminated to light the way or with enough space to store treats given to them by the residents they sing for. Some claim that this custom’s roots are linked with the December 6th Celebration of Agios Nikolas (Saint Nicholas) who is the Patron Saint of Sailors in Greece.
So here is my take on the challenge, wishing you a Very Merry Christmas…

“I thought for a long time about how I would tell the story about how we celebrate Christmas in Sweden. I finally decided to make a set of Christmas Tree decorations. The Christmas Tree is essential for all Swedish homes during Christmas, even though the look of the tree differs a lot (fake, real, blue, white, even pink…). We set up our tree 1 week before Christmas Eve and decorate it with a mix of vintage glass baubles and the kids creations. I made these mixed media stars with the Yuletide Collection as a base, and used stickers, die cuts and UmWowStudio flair.”

Me again… For the December challenge this time “Traditions around the world” …
Christmas is around the corner and I love this period of the year so much… especially the preparations.
I love doing altered objects for Christmas, for our home decoration. It’s our tradition, changing the Christmas decoration every year .
I created these projects with the beautiful YULETIDE COLLECTION. I would like to wish you, all 7 DOTS STUDIO’s fans, HAPPY HOLIDAYS !!!

My interpretation of the theme is my own traditions and a way to document them – so I made a mini album to document the December until the 26th and so to keep track of our family’s Christmas traditions. I decorated the cover and added some details to each spread, but all the photos and texts are coming daily during December.

In my part of the country, the fir tree is important. We put presents under the fir tree traditionally the night before Christmas, on December 24th. At home, me and my children as they grow older, add them throughout the month. In the morning of Christmas Day, always in pyjamas, we play and unpack presents together as family. I like giving them to my kids a lot, they unpack a present one very hour to lengthen the pleasure. Merry Christmas everyone

In this creation I had fun with a new collection, I love it. I like the mix of paper and medium.
The Writer’s Block collection blends wonderfully with this theme. Not to mention my splashing.
Also a little touch of flowers makes the whole thing come together nicely. Please enjoy my video.

In Poland we celebrate Christmas Eve as the most important day over all Christmas. Christmas Eve is known as ‘Wigilia’. It’s traditional that no food is eaten until the first star is seen in the sky. On the table there are 12 dishes. Everyone has to eat or at least try some of each dish. Carp is the main dish of the meal. On the Christmas Eve we open the presents. In most of the houses, before the presents are opened, the family sings carols together. My green Christmas tree is decorated with a star on the top, gingerbreads, sweets, lights and glass ornaments. They are usually hand-made, painted or decorated in other way.
The days after Christmas are often spent with family and friends. Happy Christmas!

December is a very special month. It’s the wintery month that is full of joy, happiness and light. We decorate our houses, we spread the joy to others, we give gifts and send beautiful cards to our friends. And we call it – Christmas -. Happy December and Happy Christmas!

For our December challenge Louise has decided to use one of our fabulous new ranges to create a combination of coordinated gift tags and mini photo albums. These albums are just the perfect personal gift for grandparents, Aunts and Uncles, and even Godparents. Just fill them up with favourite photos of the family and children and you have a wonderful gift to give at Christmas.

When I was a child, I made small gifts of candy for Father Frost every year, and now I wanted to remember that little tradition.

November challenge – Moments in Time

There are so many in our lives that we would love to remember. Every one of them gives us a something.  Little ones, big ones, happy or sad, whatever they may be We encourage you to capture them in art. That’s what this month’s challenge is all about. Share with us your projects containing moments You want to save.

Here is the inspiration from our team:

When I read the challenge theme I knew I wanted to make something vintage inspired even though “moments in time” are happening constantly. I chose to go with this photo taken near our summer house of an old stable window. I love how it’s partially in pieces and really grungy looking. What stories it holds! I love when objects have a personality and stories to tell. When they tell about those moments in time.

Moment in time… My moment … US moment, our wedding… Today I want to share with you my new layout with a photo of my wedding.
I sprayed blue ink with gesso on the background and dark ink for some added splatters. I love to play with textures !!!!
I used a lot of media, stencils, flowers and also papers and words stickers from 7 Dots Studio.
Love, Nathalie

I created these vintage looking ATC’s for the 7 Dots Studio November challenge “Moments in Time.” There are so many moments in our lives that we would love to remember. These ATC’s are perfect for remembering some of them. Each message helps us connect to what’s important in life such as “Imagine the impossible”, “draw your own map”, etc. I used the Writer’s Block collection to create these ATC’s as they were perfect for the theme.

In this creation I had some fun with the new collection, I love it. I like the mixture of paper and media. The Writer’s Block collection fits wonderfully with this page. We can find the theme of the challenge in this creation for sure . Not to mention my splashes.
Also please enjoy the video.

Every moment in time gives us a chance to love, to learn, to dream. You can always make choices as to how you want to change your life.
We have all experienced those turning points in our lives. The moments when we make a decision which changes everything.
I created a mixed media layout and I mixed two newest collections: Writer’s Block and Cotton Candy Dreams. I really love them both.

For this challenge I made a one page mini album, with amazing Cotton Candy Dreams collection. I love to keep memories in hand-made albums or layouts. And these are my memories from the beautiful holiday trip.

For me, moment in the time connect with memory. Memories, these small pleasant moments which we want to remember for the rest of our lives. One moment which we want to save in the pages of our story… There’s nothing better that the new collection of 7dots ”Writer’s block” from Dee Carton to express what I wanted for this challenge.
thanks a lot. Sandra xx

The challenge title “Moments in Time” inspired me to make a mini book using the Cotton Candy Dreams Collection in combination with element pictures from the Cold Country Collection. The small size makes it perfect for writing small notes in – maybe a memories of your grandparents or something similar.

I love old photos, they are a piece of the past stopped for a moment, and we can feel the transience of what is happening around us! The new collection of papers inspired me to create a vintage work.

There are some moments in time that You will never forget. As a mom of two boys I have lots of memories connected with them that are very special for me. It is hard to be a mother in full but I am sure that love, trust and friendship that is built during years are worth this effort. My summer memory is framed with the newest, fabulous collection “Writer’s Block”.

I had a long time to think ‘moments in time’ over, but suddenly it hit me.
Time is moving constantly. Always flying away… I took this picture of my daughter. She was not posing here, she was moving. It is blurry but that’s what ‘moments in time’ mean for me. Not posing pictures on birthdays. But the pictures from every day life. When she is not looking, the beauty she has when she doesn’t know I am taking the picture….the perfect moment in time… I used the beautiful collection Writer’s block, and I used the word stickers that represent those moments in time: that you tell your story, to turn the page, and tell the epilogue…

I made layout from new Cotton Candy Dreams collection. There is me and my friend in the photo. We met through scrap-booking, communicated for a long time on-line and met in a real life one year ago. Here is my moment in time! Thanks to scrap-booking that brings us together despite the distance!
