Same materials – two styles by Riikka Kovasin

Hello again there! It’s Riikka here today sharing two pages made from the same papers and embellishments but with different in style. One is more modern while the other is more romantic. I always try to somehow link my two creations in the same post, whether by theme, paper, collection, colours or a certain detail. This time it was all about the paper. First I thought about using the same background paper, but while working with the two pages I came to the conclusion that using most of the same materials would be even better.

The first page is done with a more modern, contemporary touch. I placed the background paper sideways that the colour is changing from turquoise to soft peach in the direction of the arrow. To have a pop feeling to the page I used the speech bubble chippie, hexagon print and the letter stencil in the page. The layers behind the photo include some pieces of patterned papers as well as tags. To give the page some contrast, I chose to go with a dark, almost black, flair.

The topic of the page are fun pencils I bought at the local zoo. In their ends, where there’s the black bit, there are seeds. So when the pencil is so short you can’t write with it any more, you can plant it! I thought it was a brilliant idea! So I bought two – marigold and forget-me-not.

The other page is about three growing ladies – my two girls and my father’s dog. My older one just turned 8, my younger one is soon to be 7 and the dog just turned 2. In the photo they all seems so little and now they are so much bigger even if the photo is less than a year old!

I wanted this page to be more sweet and romantic than the previous one. Here I used the background paper normally and the twine I used as a design element sort of divides it to turquoise and soft peach sections. I used a speech bubble chippie in this page, too, as well as the letter stencil. The previous one is peeking behind the flowers on the right side of the photo and the latter I used to write the title.

Thank you so much for your visit today! Wishing you a lovely day!
Xoxo Riikka

Let’s bloom by Rikka Kovasin

I love the increasing amount of light here up north! The long winter starts to be over and there’s sunlight and if not that, at least daylight streaming through the windows again! Ah! This is effecting my creatinons as I start to use different colours and have noticed a big increase in my use of flowers in my crafts!

So when thinking about the project I was going to make for this post, I decided to do a flowery layout. I used sweet, pastel colors and a lot of blooms to make a spring-like page with candy-like colors. Please see how the layout was made from the video below.

The layout is about our trip to Berlin a couple of summers ago. While in there, we visited the beautiful Charlottenburg Palace with a lovely Baroque style garden so the flowers seemed really appropriate for this page!

Thank you for stopping by today! Wishing you a lovely day!

March Challenge: Altered Art – Beyond the page

We all love making different types of beautiful cards and layouts, who doesn’t. This month we want to do something a little different so we challenged our design team and want to challenge you to create an Altered Art project. Will it be a accessory, blank canvas or an ornament you own that you think would use some more colour and embellishments here is a chance to transform it and share with us.

Here is the inspiration from our team:

I created a 3D pop up book page for the Altered Art March challenge. I used both Destination Unknown and Cotton Candy Dreams to create this underwater assemblage. I used chipboard, flowers, mini art stones, real shells and starfish and a mini glass bottle. I combined everything with some mixed media sprays, gesso, alcohol inks and stuck it all with gel. I mounted it all on an old hard cover book so it would be sturdy enough to withstand the mixed media products and the heavy pieces. I’m quite pleased with the results. This is a picture of my kids during a photo shoot at the beach so I thought it was perfect for this off the page project.

I made this little tin lady using an old candy box and papers, stickers and die-cuts from Cotton Candy Dreams. I covered the inside with a piece of the “Pucker Up” paper and then added the little lady, and used the speech bubble from the die-cut sheet as a focal point on the top. Word sticker add the right feeling. She is now sitting on the shelf where I keep all my mists

My first idea was to alter something and go really mixed media with it. But as that’s what I love to do, I thought to challenge myself a bit more and go easy with the mediums. Luckily I then found a tall tin jar in my stash and thought to make a pen holder out of it. That way I could use more patterned paper and embellishments and not so much mediums! I did use some mediums, but did use quite a few paper elements as well. Can’t wait to see what you do with the theme!

I simply love the design of the abstract flowers on the “Cotton Candy Dreams” papers. I wanted to replicate them and combine my own drawing with the printed design onto a canvas. The process was lots of fun as I experimented how to get a similar effect in my drawing to that on the papers. I just love the end result, it’s so whimsical and exactly how I imagined it.

Today Louise is sharing her fun take on paper dolls. Louise loves to create these just for creative fun, and or to use in her scrapbooking and art journal. Louise thought it would be great to use the fabulous 7 Dots Studio stamps so she has used them to create patterns on the dresses of her quaint hand drawn girly peeps.

Hi everyone !
My self-confidence is very low… like many of us but I really think that beauty lies beyond the mirror! I created this mirror to express this feeling. At first, this mirror was white, I used a lot of mixed media products, metal embellishments and played with paints and sprays. Of course, I added 7 Dots Studio goodies, I’m in love with the 7 Dots Studio’s Words Stickers, I want to put them everywhere :) They match perfectly here, don’t they?
XOXOXOXOXO, Nathalie Dalibard

In this creation, I had fun altering a small box. I love using the 7 Dots Studio papers as the are of nice quality and thickness. I love texture and 3D feel so I embellished the box with a bit of chipboards and tags. It turned out magical and mystical at the same time.
Please enjoy the video.

For this challenge, I made small rectangle boxes form 7 Dots Studio papers to add to my canvas to get more volume. I added mediums as well for texture and to decorate the whole. I also used stickers and tags also from 7 Dots Studio. A real pleasure to create.

Hello,Everyone! This is my project for Altered Art Challenge. It’s an easel for my cards and tags photo sessions =) I used Sweet Candy Dream Collection.

I love altered art! My favourite things to make awesome are bulbs and bottles. So, this month I decided to make spring bottle with wire dragonfly. And now it is my favourite 3D-project. I really love all this glitter and bright colours, and almost alive dragonfly!
