Talk to the hand by Riikka Kovasin

Hi there! It’s Riikka here today sharing some projects with you. For these two projects I used the hand stamp from the “Fortune-teller” stamp set – thus the name of the post.
I stamped the image onto a transparency with watermark ink and then embossed the design with white embossing powder. After that I cut the stamped pieces from the sheet and created like that some decorations of my own.

In all of the projects the hand forms a background for the tiny photo. Besides the photo from the die cut set and the stamped hand decoration, there’s just a few items in the journal page. The main thing in the page is the rustic background.

The background is done using a patterned paper from “The Queen’s Heart” collection which I transferred to my journal. I left some of the white paper on there as well as removed the pattern all together at parts to create an old wallpaper look.
The ATCs are made using almost the same materials, but a different color scheme as I added some purple to these. There’s purple watercolor, ink and also felt pen. The theme is heart and love and I chose the text stickers accordingly.

Thank you for stopping by today!

Give camera to kids by Riikka Kovasin

Hello there 7 Dots Studio fans! It’s Riikka here today sharing a couple of layouts with you. What connects these two pages is the photos in them. They are not taken by me but instead my girls.
The first page is about the family. I love how my daughter arranged us in the family portrait even asking us to have items in our hands – I’m holding a paintbrush and my husband a bow for an electric violin. And then the photographer ended up leaving the heads of the parents off! The center of attention in the photo is her little sister and the rest of us is just more like a background. I’m captivated by the photo as it shows also her perspective – little sister is of same height as she and parents are towering somewhere above.
I used a lot of neutral pieces in the page, but mixed in some hints of red and pink as well. There’s watercolors and mists in the background as well as some scribblings. The word stickers from “Thoughts Keeper” collection create a background design together with some washi tape. To add a little extra to the bottom right corner, I added two stickers which I used as journaling spots.
The other page is of a self-portrait. My older daughter took that of herself through a mirror. It’s fun how you still can tell who it is even though her whole face is hidden behind the camera! Reminds me of self-portraits I used to take or photographers have taken from the dawn of cameras.
This page I started by layering pieces of the “Sticky Notes” paper into the background. On top I then added some gesso with a palette knife and then mist through a stencil. There’s also strips of masking and washi tapes in the background.

Blue and pink by Riikka Kovasin

Hi there! Today it’s Riikka here to share two layouts with you! The other is in blue shades and the other pinks.
The first one is an inspiration piece to myself. It’s kind of a reminder to take chances and reach for the top. I found perfect elements for the page in many collections but chose to go with the Verano Azul one with the background. The blue sky and the steadily forward going, soaring plane seemed appropriate for the layout so I also chose to go with my favorite color scheme.

I started the page with some mist and ink and then carried on to stamping and Modeling paste. On top I then layered some papers and stickers and made sure that the piece from the 6×6 Verano Azul pad I had cut was showing. “Sky is the limit”.

The other page is about the moment I met Linda. I was teaching in Egersund and the flights were to Stavanger. She drove to the airport when I was heading home just to see me! She’s an amazing artist and so warm, kind and fun! And such a dear! It was such a pleasure to see her in person! So this page celebrates her.

I started also this page with some mist and then added stamping on top. I also created the deer head pattern to the page first with mist and then traced along the edge to really get the pattern showing. There’s a few pen swirls and also swirls of wire thread.
Thank you for stopping by today! Have a pleasant December and heart-warming Christmas time!
