flea market doily and lace Hi and welcome again to our Flea Market section! Looking through attics and basements, old wardrobes and drawers you may find loads of  stuff that may be useful in your scrapbooking, mixed media and altered art projects. One of the most popular ones among crafters are laces and doilies – pretty, elegant, sometimes a bit shabby and naturally distressed 🙂 Who doesn’t like them?
We love them for sure… just take a look at the project made by our great Guest Designer – Irene Tan – and wonderful Design Team!

Irene Tan:
When I were given the topic on doilies, I wanted to try my best to include different kind of doilies on the project. On this layout, you could see a masked doily which I’ve done with a paper doily and some inks, a paper doily and a fabric doily. This idea brings so much different texture and dimension to the layout. The sweet purple hue in the “All I Ever” collection inspires the color combo of this layout.

I was inspired by Christine Middlecamp and her project The Embellished Paper Doily.
There are 9 embellished Doilies on my project. I set it up with some elements that I usually use: flowers and leaves, doilies and laces, pearls and crystals, butteflies and birds… I added three letters: ART, as the title of my work. This is my “inspiring board” ; -)

Finnabair:
I do love lace with all my heart – they are a beautiful embellishments, great backgrounds and perfect elements of composition for almost every kind of project. On this page I went a bit wild with them: paper with laced pattern from Wonderland collection is the background for a vintage layout, based on  stamping and spraying. There are many Flea Market elements on this page: and at least 4 different kinds of lace – torn, cut into pieces and colored with sprays but also buttons, buckles and paper clips.

I prepared a small picture, with photo of my son when he was so tiny and so cute:-) I usedpapers and real doilies. In addition, I used cardboard embellishments and stickers. All kept in a powder-white – shabby chic!

Tara:
I absolutely fell in love with this challenge from 7 Dots. The design team was asked to use doilies and lace on their projects. Since I pretty much use both of these details on almost all of my layouts, I jumped at the chance to do this assignment. I love mixing different textures of crochet lace and doilies as well as paper doilies. I feel they add a certain warmth and vintage feel to my projects as well as offer a soft and feminine feel. I find many of my doilies and lace at thrift shops or old antique shops. You can find paper doilies pretty much everywhere – including dollar stores as well as many restaurants! I often tuck the ones found under teacups and plates into my purse straight away!!
